You can’t beat a Nikon in terms of digital cameras currently, and the D3100 is my favorite. It’s a litte fancy for someone who is a REAL beginner, but for even moderate level photo takers it’s got all the bells and whistles while still being simple enough to use. If you’re looking for the absolute best digital camera that will last you for years to come, this is the one for you. It’s versatile and can do anything you want it to. If I was stuck with just one camera for the rest of my life it would be this one.

This camera is a lot of fun in its own way as it has a lot of the features of a pricier bigger camera. I bought one of these for my teenage daughter and it is the perfect camera for her, or it makes a great travel camera for those who want something that it is easy to just shove in your bag.

Here is your camera if you’re looking for a compact camera that still provides a lot of options to the user. For a point and shoot it’s probably for the mid to high level photographer. It took me a little while to get used to this one, and I wouldn’t have added it to the list except for the fact that you can do ANYTHING with it once you get the hang of it. The “sweep panorama mode” let’s you take shots as wide as you can imagine and is really a neat feature to play with. It’s hard to beat this camera and you’re always safe going with a sony for usability.

Fujifilm isn’t a camera maker that immediately pops to mind when you think of digital cameras anymore, but once you give this one a shot you might have to reconsider your position. In terms of a camera that can perform this is up at the tops. If you want a simple point and shoot camera and don’t care too much about being compace then this might just be your baby.

I figured when dealing with cameras I had better have at least one brick on this list. This camera is virtually indestructible. It’s a great underwater camera and if you’re into diving or are just a bit of a klutz this is a great option. My kids loved playing with this one in the pool all summer and we brought it along on our trip to Florida and it worked well in the ocean too.
